Venue Description

Situated in the heart of Cronulla, 1908 Cronulla Restaurant & Cocktail Bar is a one-of-a-kind venue, with its relaxed sophisticated feel within the splendid architecture of a church.

Reflecting its proximity to the sea, 1908 Cronulla prides itself on coastal cuisines embracing flavours of the ocean worldwide.

Influenced by ingredients and spices from the Caribbean, Brazil, Mexico, Spain, Italy, India, Thailand & Polynesia, Head Chef David Magill has composed a cuisine with a focus on fresh local produce. It is a celebration of coastal dining, which includes BBQ grilling and guéridon flambé in the dining room.

Experience wonderful service from the team whilst enjoying a cocktail and a unique contemporary cuisine!

1908 Cronulla Restaurant & Cocktail Bar is the ideal venue for couples, groups and functions of all sizes with private lounges available. Corporate events requesting confidentiality are welcome.

Why 1908? At the turn of the XXth century, the Illawara train line revived the remote seaside gem of Cronulla. Surrounded by glittering waters and magnificent sand dunes, Cronulla started to attract settlers, beach lovers and Sydney-siders. A Methodist church was erected circa 1908, where the restaurant now stands. It went on to be the Shire library in the 1970’s, then The Old Library Restaurant in 2011.

Impressed by the tall ceilings, exposed beams and original timber lining, award-winning designers Guthrie & Hecker transformed the venue into its current incarnation, designing the space with a connection to the seaside location and the original architecture, while adding new elements such as the impressive central bar. Working within the voluminous spaces, they created a sense of intimacy and gathering through creating a series of rooms within rooms and spaces within spaces.

Custom furniture pieces and a natural palette of oak, linen, white timber and blackened steel contribute to the relaxed and somewhat domestic space that is 1908.

Sibella Court, internationally known interior stylist, was responsible for the interiors.
